Agricultural law deals with the infrastructures governing local and national agricultural practices, such as seed and water usage, pesticides, crop rotation, and pollution. It is also an umbrella term for other types of law within the agricultural industry - including laws on agricultural finance, agricultural marketing, agricultural insurance, agricultural labour, farming rights, the land tenure and tenancy systems, and also law on agricultural processing and the rural industry at large.

Aviation law is primarily concerned with issues affecting the aviation industry, although it differs from country to country and air space to air space. Often there are dramatic differences in restrictions and jurisdiction within each airspace, although aviation law is increasingly being recognised as an international law governing all airspace. Air travel, flight scheduling, airport and airliner insurance and related-businesses all fall into this legal category.

Commercial law governs business and commercial transactions. It is often seen as a branch of civil law and deals with issues of both private and public law. It regulates corporate contracts, hiring practices and the manufacture and sales of consumer goods.

Common law concerns laws which have been developed through the decisions of individual judges via court cases and tribunals rather than the usual method of legislative statutes or 'executive branch action' put in place by the presiding government. Such a system, known as the 'common law system', possesses precedential weight relating to laws which are unfairly applied in differing cases but resulting in the same outcome. Such precedents become 'common law' and therefore change certain laws universally or allow judges to apply them on a case-by-case basis.

Criminal law, also known as penal law, refers to any of a number of various bodies of rules in different jurisdictions whose common characteristic is the potential for unique and often severe impositions as punishment for failure to comply. Unlike civil law, which may be enforced by private parties, criminal law is generally enforced by the government.

Environmental Law is a complex and interlocking body of statutes, common law, treaties, conventions, regulations and policies which, very broadly, operate to regulate the interaction of humanity and the rest of the biophysical or natural environment, toward the purpose of reducing or minimizing the impacts of human activity, both on the natural environment for its own sake, and on humanity itself.

EU law is a body of agreed treaties, law and court judgements which are implemented in a 'parallel system' with the laws of each of the European Unions' member states. Although a 'parallel system' is sometimes thought to be ineffective, it is implemented in cases whereby a conflict in both laws forces a precedence of EU law over the national law of that member state.

Human Rights Law is a system of laws, both domestic, regional and international, designed to promote human rights. Human rights law is made up of various international human rights instruments which are binding to its parties. An important concept within human rights law is that of universal jurisdiction. Some customary peremptory norms of human rights are also recognised, and these are considered binding on all nations, even those that have not ratified the relevant treaty.

Insurance Law concerns the practices of insurance law including insurance policies and claims, as well as regulation of the insurance industry. Claim handling and the business of insurance are its two primary concerns, as well as the solving of any disputes by an insurance company and an individual.

International law is the term commonly used for referring to the system of implicit and explicit agreements that bind together nation-states in adherence to recognized values and standards. It differs from other legal systems in that it primarily concerns states rather than private citizens, and as such, is it vital that information is communicated clearly and concisely across language divides.

Medical negligence is professional malpractice by act or omission by a health care provider in which care provided deviates from accepted standards of practice in the medical community and causes injury or death to the patient. Medical professionals are required to maintain professional liability insurance to offset the risk and costs of lawsuits based on medical negligence. Also related to this field are injury law and healthcare law. It is vital that when dealing with the specificities of law nothing is lost in translation to avoid time-consuming and costly mistakes.
